FENA Investigators Awarded DoD Grant on Biologically Assembled Quantum Systems: FENA theme leader for Nano-Architectures, Richard Kiehl, and FENA investigators Yu Huang and Kang Wang will play key roles in the study of biological routes to precision assembly of quantum electronic systems that could significantly impact future computing architectures. Professor Philip Kim of Columbia University has has been selected by the Board of Editors of Scientific American magazine for inclusion in the fifth annual SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN50.  This award honors 50 individuals, teams, companies and other organizations whose accomplishments in research, business or policymaking during 2005-2006 demonstrate outstanding technological leadership. Along with Andre Geim of the University of Manchester, Prof. Kim was selected as a winner for his research contributions to the development of graphene.

Research: UCLA Professor Fraser Stoddart's Nature paper describing the 160 Kbit memory was highlighted by the New York Times, the AP wire, Scientific American, and Technology Review, and was featured on the front page of National Science Foundation website. The NYT and AP stories were picked up by almost 200 newspapers and media outlets worldwide.

FENA student wins MRS Spring Meeting Best Poster Award: FENA graduate student Manu Shamsa received the Best Graduate Student Poster award at the Materials Research Society (MRS) Spring Meeting in San Francisco. Manu, who works in Professor Alexander Balandin’s Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL) at UC-Riverside, presented a poster entitled Modeling of the Thermal Conduction Mechanisms in Amorphous Inter-Layer Dielectrics (ILDs). This work has been done in collaboration with the researchers from Intel Corporation, Hillsboro, Oregon. It was initiated during Manu’s summer internship at Intel. The research has been presented in the Symposium on Materials, Technology, and Reliability of Low-k Dielectrics and Copper Interconnects.
